Research Ethics at the TU Wien

The TU Wien has recently established in the Office for Gender Competence the position of a research ethics coordinator under the leadership of Dr. Marjo Rauhala.

Research ethics provides guidelines and boundaries for responsible and appropriate conduct of research.  Good research is backed up by a solid appreciation of the potential ethical issues at stake both in the research process itself as well as in the future application of the results.

Where to get support – Contact point for research ethics

Since 2017, the scope of the tasks of the Office of Gender Competence has been extended to include research ethics coordination. TU research ethics offers a service for the entire university, from university management, institutes and faculties to individual researchers, in questions related to research ethics and research integrity.
As a researcher, you can approach us for advice on questions addressing ethics requirements of funding bodies, ethical approval, research integrity, and other aspects of research ethics.

We offer practical guidance with your questions concerning:

•    identifying potential ethical issues in your research;

•    integrating research ethics into your research design;

•    addressing ethics requirements issued by funding bodies to research proposals;

•    formulating statements concerning research ethics in research proposals.

In future, we plan to offer workshops and trainings in research ethics to members of the TU Wien research community.

•    If you are a PhD supervisor who would like to provide research ethics training to your students, please
